What is New Seattle? (and an interview)

Seattle (taken from Weasel T Wolf's Webpage https://www.angelfire.com/ns/NewSeattle

"This city was founded on the back of an old devastated city,
which was founded on the back of an even older devastated city, which
was founded on the back of. . . something, I don’t know. The point is
that Seattle has come back from the dead more times than Elvis, and this
time I hope it works."

--Head of T-Tech Corporate Security Lance Spector when forced by his wife
to give a speech at the founding of New Seattle. (86 PA)

[Taken from an interview by Laura Spellsong, for the Tolkien Free Speaker
(newspaper) dated August 21, 103 P.A.]
"New Seattle, corporate stronghold, or new city of magic?" This is
one of the many questions I asked City Founder, Ruler, fellow Mage, Handsome
Millionaire Playboy, and CEO of T-Tech Enterprises, ‘Lord’ Taran Tekmar II.

TT: "Actually Laura, I can call you that right?"

LS: "Of course, we like to keep things informal here, can I call you Taran?"

TT: "Sure. Anyway, as I was saying, New Seattle is both. On one hand,
it is a fortified city-state, owned and operated by T-Tech. . . But it’s
also a free city, a place where all beings can go to be free. Free to think,
free to act, free to be themselves, no matter what race they are."

LS: "But doesn’t this create a bit of a problem with free enterprise?"

TT: "Of course not, aside from our allies Manga Arms and Paladin Steel,
T-Tech permits all kinds of businesses to set up and sell to our citizens,
from mom and pop shops to major outlet stores. A lot of the time they sell
things we don’t produce, in the cases where they do sell products we make,
they’re free to sell them. It’s not our fault if the citizens of New
Seattle, over eighty percent of whom work for T-Tech Enterprises, prefer to
but our products over theirs. We don’t ask them to, and they are in no way forced
to. They just take pride in their own work."

LS: "But Taran, you’ve got to admit, you do hold a lot of power, not just
as their leader, but as their employer. Some say that the citizens of NS are
too afraid to speak out, that they could lose their jobs, or worse. Some
people say you’ve got a corporate dictatorship going."

TT: "That is ridiculous. I suggest you check your sources on that. You
can ask anyone, even people who have moved to VFS or here when we went
through the shift last year. T-Tech holds no power over the citizens of NS.
We’ve had our share of people quit T-Tech for various reasons but are still living
happily in NS and have suffered absolutely no repercussions. I am neither
vindictive, no a dictator Miss Spellsong."

LS: "Well, that’s exactly what we did. We asked scores of current and
former T-Tech employees, to tell the truth we started off gunning for you,
hoping *someone* would have something bad to say, but everyone we
interviewed, even people who quit and left NS, have said that T-Tech isn’t,
and never has been a dictatorship, and on a couple of occasions I was
called a sensationalist, or worse and thrown out. It’s clear that your citizens,
employees, and even ex-employees all love you, or at least respect your
integrity. I must say I’m impressed. Oh, there was one ex-employee who said
you're an alien intelligence who has come to earth to conquer it by offering
high quality TW at low low prices. . . But then again, when I interviewed him
He didn't have any pants on and was wearing a tinfoil pyramid on his head.
He claimed that some race called the Quagarr have been trying to steal his
brain waves."

TT: "That would be Max, wouldn't it? He was head of PR and marketing
but snapped when me made the shift from robotics to TW. Now you know why
he doesn't work for us anymore."

LS: "The poor man. He even showed me what he claimed was the body of a
slain Quagarr warrior who had jumped out of his oven in an attempt to kill
him. It looked a lot like a roasted chicken."

TT: "That’s good to hear, at least we don't have to worry about yet
another alien invasion."

LS: "Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule, Lord Tekmar."

A Brief History of T-Tech:
Way back in 82 PA T-Tech was re-founded on the remains of an old
Pre-Rifts robotics corporation (the original T-Tech) in Seattle. For the
first three years, business wasn't going too well, but in 85 PA something
happened to change all that.
In the middle of the night, in the summer of 85 there was an
incredibly loud explosion, and a huge column of steam comeing off of Lake
Washington. Dozens of massive fireballs lit up the sky and were streaking
for nearby Mercer Island.
Those ships were the Lost SDF-3 (from Robotech) and what remained
of it's escort fleet. when the Space-Fold malfunctioned it sent the SDF
and it's escorts not to their earth, but a parallel one. Before they knew
it they were under attack on all sides by killer satellites, and being
pelted with debris. They lost several ships and many fighters before the
main guns were fired to clear a path for a crash-landing. The
super-particle beam not only punched through the debris and the
satellites, but it also hit the surface. Luckily it hit water, and not the
nearby community of New Seattle, but it put a bug crater in the bottom of
Lake Washington and vaporized enough water to drop the lake's level by
several yards! There was no time to worry about environmental repercussions,
the ships needed to land, and land quick. With minimal steering and power
they managed to set the massive ship, and most of it's escorts down
safely on the island. A few others weren't so lucky, and sank in the lake
(there were few fatalities though, but the ships were unsalvageable for now)
T-Tech was on the scene in minutes, and was quick to offer aid and
repairs, in exchange for a few goods and services. . . In a couple short
years T-Tech, and the new RCF (Robotech Colonization Force) became strong
allies. The space-fold devices on the SDF-3 and the Ikazuchi SFCs
wouldn't function in the magic-rich environment of Rifts Earth, so they
set up an New Macross City, on Mercer Island (Renamed New Macross Island)
and were determined to expand. T-Tech offered the land, and contacts, and
the RCF provided the resources.

Soon T-Tech was back on it's feet, the City of New Seattle rose
from the ashes, and T-Tech products began hitting the markets. For many
years T-Tech was primarily a bionics and robotics producer, but in 102
PA Lord Taran Tekmar II (the CEO of T-Tech, renamed himself after the
original CEO of the pre-rifts T-Tech) decided he's been neglecting his
roots as a TW, and suddenly shifted the focus of his company from
Robotics, to TW, and commissioned the building of a full-time TW factory
in Nevada. He saw the old postcards of the giant black, glass pyramid that
was the Luxor Hotel and had to have it. Nothing screams TW like a mystic
pyramid made on the bones of a Pre-Rifts Casino! And in the amazingly
short time of 1 year (thanks to the aid of several stone masters, Earth
Warlocks, and a robotic workforce) the shiny black pyramid was completed.
Fort Luxor, as it was dubbed, was not only a TW factory but it was also a
TW fortress, complete with a half TW-half Robotechnology disintegration
cannon housed in the old spotlight (It can fire straight up, or straight
down the sides of the the pyramid and in a complete circle)
In 105 PA, when the CS unveiled their new War Machine, their first
target was Tolkien, and the Manga Arms Headquarters. The MA HQ was
evacuated and destroyed. Next, the CS Turned their attention to Fort Luxor
and the city that sprang up around it. The Attack was repulsed at the gates
by a combination of RCF and T-Tech troops teleported in from Seattle, and
intermittent barrages from the Luxor Cannon. But the massive death toll and
surge of ambient PPE released triggered a huge lay-line storm. Normally this
wouldn't be a problem, the experimental rift suppression device built into
the pyramid kept random rifts from appearing on the Luxor super-nexus. But
the storm was to strong, and the suppressors too experimental. The system
failed, and the pyramid, and the walled inner-city of downtown New Vagas
were sucked through a rift, and into another dimension.
Now T-Tech is determined to bring it back. Conventional methods of
shifters and rifting have failed. The pyramid must either have been
destroyed, or teleported into some anti-magical anomaly, or for some other
unknown reason is unreachable by magic. While they couldn't pull it out,
they were able to locate it's current dimension, and rough location. Now
it is time for the rebuilt SDF-3, and it's two escorts (two rebuilt Ikazuchis
named, the Prometheus and the Daedalus) to take to the stars once more,
in a quest to find the missing Fortress.
